Cult Products

Cult products can be defined as products that command fierce consumer loyalty, devotion, and maybe even worship by consumers who are very highly involved with a brand. (Solomon, 2009)

Examples of Cult Products:

Apple computers

Harley-Davidson Motorcycles

Krispy Kreme Dounuts

Jones Soda

Apple products have such a cult following that websites, blogs, flickr groups, and even a book have been written about it.

The industry with the most notable cult following of products is that of the beauty industry.  Sephora, the French based cosmetic and beauty store, has 36 products in their Cult Beauty, which they define as "From under-the-radar stars to chic foreign finds to iconic chart toppers, these scene-stealing products with loyal followings top our cult-favorites list."  Even Yahoo Shopping has a list of Cult Products the includes beauty classics such as Bobby Brown Foundation Stick, Maybelline Great Lashes Mascara, and Chanel, OPI, and Essie Nail Polishes.

Fierce consumer demand and loyalty can be seen in fans of both recording artists and sports teams.

One recording artist with this cult like following is Lady Gaga, and her "little monster."

Sports fans are notorious for their loyalty and devotion for their teams.
